laptop / notebook / netbook ?

I was wondering which would feature best for me.

I am looking at Acer Plans, as they suit good for me & the service center of Acer is just 25kms from my residence (need to get into sub-urban part of the town).
HDD space is not an big issue even 80gb would be more than enough, but RAM is something demanding I am looking for around 2 - 3 gb minimum, Windows (XP or w7 no issue)

Here's what I need:

1. Need a good strong battery as we have very bad power cuts in our residential area & UPS isn't enough.

2. Looking to browse for around 4 - 6 hrs minimum a day (might use up to 12 - 15hrs ) in humid temperature (having A/C is out of topic due to my apartment restrictions) & mostly during evenings and nights (temp. will be low compared to the day)

3. Easy availability of repairable parts

** I am using my friend's Compaq Armada E500 series laptop (in addition to PC) for a while its an old one with as low as 128mb ram, its still good but I am scared about using long hours on it. If I use any day for an excess of 8hrs I usually give it a rest on the next day.

suggestions and reason for them would be highly appreciated, as I am not much of technical person and I am on a venture to acquire my first non-desktop system .
